Cabine reveals Wildstar business model
So how are NCSoft and Carbine going to monetise Wildstar? All has now been revealed in a system that sounds simple enough for any MMO gamer to understand.
The game will require purchasing from a retailer or online retailer and will come with 30 days free. All pretty standasd stuff but it get slightly more interesting when it comes to playing after the free period.
A standard monthly subscription system will be available but you will also be able to continue playing by utilising C.R.E.D.D (Certificate of Research, Exploration, Destruction and Development). This game item can be sold between players for gold and then used to purchase more game time. The price of C.R.E.D.D will fluctuate as it will be sold by players in the game’s Commodities Exchange.
“Gamers have strong opinions when it comes to business models and monetisation in MMO games”, said Jeremy Gaffney, executive producer at Carbine Studios. ”In combining a classic subscription model with C.R.E.D.D. we think we’ve struck a good balance. We definitely want to support players who appreciate the value of high-quality subscription-style game. Meanwhile, C.R.E.D.D. gives gamers who don’t like monthly subs the option to just play to pay and enjoy the same content”.
Wildstar will be released at some point early 2014 and there’s a new FAQ page explaining more about the above.
